Dr. Rogerio S. Lima received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Stony Brook University (USA) in 2001, under the mentorship of Distinguished Professor Christopher Berndt (now at Swinburne University of Technology - Australia). The topic of his PhD thesis was on the development of thermally sprayed thermal barrier coatings (TBCs). After obtaining his Ph.D., Dr. Lima joined the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 2001 as a Research Associate; working at the Thermal Spray Team. He was appointed as Assistant Research Officer and awarded permanent position at the NRC in 2006; subsequently advancing to the rank of Associate Research Officer in 2008. In 2015 Dr. Lima was promoted to Senior Research Officer, which is his current position at the NRC. Dr. Lima has published 69 refereed journal papers and 63 conference papers. His scientific papers have been cited more than 3200 times and his h-index is 31 (source: Scopus – November 8, 2020).
Dr. Lima is invited regularly to review papers for international materials science journals and has given invited talks in North & South America, Europe, Oceania, Asia and Africa. He has worked 3 times as Co-editor and 2 times as Lead-editor for the Proceedings of the International Thermal Spray Conference (ITSC) series and has been Co-editor of 8 special editions of the Journal of Thermal Spray Technology. In 2020 he was elected as Vice-President of Thermal Spray Society (TSS) of ASM International. Dr. Lima's main research interest is R&D of thermally sprayed thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) and environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) for aerospace applications.
